ok, so we just got back yesterday from the "Loma" mountain. we stayed in a little town about 3 hours up from san juan called La Cucarita. there wasn´t much electricity...ever, or running water, so we did most of our business behind trees and we bathed in the stream, or the waterfall.
we did vbs twice for the kids and seemed to have a church service every single day. it took about 10 to 15 mins to hike up to the church and another 5ish minutes to get to the compassion international school where we did vbs. we did some outreach services where we preached the Gospel message and did our dramas. angelo was sick most of the time so ronnie filled in in the dramas.
we hiked around the town visiting people, learning where they were with God and building relationships. we were fed a lot of "chinas" a type of orange, strong dominican coffee grown right there in the town, and, weirdest of all, honey straight from the bottle. the pastor and her older daughter braided our hair one night, and we took a picture with the younger daughter cause she is just cute.
we had a good time, made some good friends and learned new skills like killing a chicken to eat. (That was emily) and learning how coffee goes from the tree to my cup.
and we encountered a lot of spiritual warfare like sicknesses, delays, and just hard times in general, but God prevailed and we were able to get down what we went there to do. during one of the outreach services a young boy named Rubio (he has very light skin so he´s nicknamed "blonde") accepted Christ, so we can praise God for that.
it was amazing to see God´s creation like that, and even though it was hard, I was honored to be given the opportunity to hike all up and down God´s mountain.
we are celebrating thanksgiving tomorrow instead of today and we´re all making one dish and eating together and then we´ll go to the stadium and play touch football. I´m thankful for this new family I have here, and reminded again how thankful I should be for running water and occasional electricity.
